One of one. A butterfly frame in gold, rimmed only along the brow so the lenses seem to float, their outer corners lifted in a soft upsweep. Brown lenses shade from warm coffee at the top to a pale tan wash at the bottom. Where temples would sit, a gold chain runs from each corner pin down to two raw green quartz stones, each hand-set in a gold-dipped cap.

The Frame

Gold-tone metal butterfly, semi-rimless: a fine brow line traces the top edge and leaves the lower lens open. Temple-less: the chain is the temple.

The Lens

Brown gradient polycarbonate lenses: lightweight, shatterproof, UV400. Deep enough at the brow to soften a bright afternoon, light enough at the cheek to let your eyes show.

The Chain

18K gold-plated box chain, with a bolder link that glints along its whole length and lies flat against the collarbone.

The Stone

Two natural green quartz stones, left raw and hand-set in 18K gold-plated caps. Pale mint threaded with white, one a little longer than the other, as stones from the ground tend to be. This is the only Cannes.

Most glasses are held by two arms. These are held by a chain — and every other decision followed from that one.

THE FRAME

There are no arms.

The chain clips into a small gold loop at each corner, passes the ear, and falls. Behind that loop there is nothing at all.

Weight, settled before assembly. The chain is weighed against the frame and against the stone, so the piece balances itself and sits where you set it.
