One of one. A classic aviator in gold, its teardrop lenses held under a straight top bar that runs clean across the brow. Brown lenses warm from a warm amber at the upper edge into a deep, quiet cocoa. In place of temples, a gold chain runs down to two raw pink quartz stones, each hand-set in a gold-dipped cap.

The Frame

Gold-tone metal aviator with a double bridge and a fine top bar. Temple-less: the chain does the work of the temples.

The Lens

Brown gradient polycarbonate lenses: lightweight, shatterproof, UV400. Warm at the top, deep at the base, and kind to the light of late afternoon.

The Chain

18K gold-plated box chain, weighted to lie flat along the collar and to slip cleanly over the head when the day is done.

The Stone

Two natural pink quartz stones, left raw and hand-set in 18K gold-plated caps. Each holds its own shade of raspberry and its own pattern of light, and no other pair carries the same. This is the only Monaco.

Most glasses are held by two arms. These are held by a chain — and every other decision followed from that one.

THE FRAME

There are no arms.

The chain clips into a small gold loop at each corner, passes the ear, and falls. Behind that loop there is nothing at all.

Polycarbonate. It absorbs impact instead of breaking, and the UV400 filter is part of the material itself — no coating on top to scratch away or fade.

Weight, settled before assembly. The chain is weighed against the frame and against the stone, so the piece balances itself and sits where you set it.
