One of one. A rimless cat-eye in gold, two upswept lenses held by nothing more than a slim bridge and a pair of small gold corners. Brown lenses deepen to chocolate along the top edge and thin to a warm tan at the bottom, so the line of the cheekbone shows through. Where the temples would be, a gold chain runs down to two raw purple quartz stones, each hand-set in a gold-dipped cap.

The Frame

Gold-tone metal bridge and corner mounts on a rimless cat-eye, the lens edges left open and polished. Temple-less: the chain is the temple.

The Lens

Brown gradient polycarbonate lenses: lightweight, shatterproof, UV400. Warm rather than cold, soft enough to flatter, tinted enough to keep the glare out.

The Chain

18K gold-plated box chain, cut to hang in an easy curve and to lie flat against the collarbone when the glasses are lowered.

The Stone

Two natural purple quartz stones, left raw and hand-set in 18K gold-plated caps. Pale lilac at the base, deeper violet at the tip, with the milky white patches that only an uncut stone carries. This is the only Capri.

Designed in Egypt.

Most glasses are held by two arms. These are held by a chain — and every other decision followed from that one.

THE FRAME

There are no arms.

The chain clips into a small gold loop at each corner, passes the ear, and falls. Behind that loop there is nothing at all.

Polycarbonate. It absorbs impact instead of breaking, and the UV400 filter is part of the material itself — no coating on top to scratch away or fade.

THE BALANCE

So what actually keeps it on?

Weight, settled before assembly. The chain is weighed against the frame and against the stone, so the piece balances itself and sits where you set it.
